Eggless Whole Wheat Cake with Walnuts and Dates

This Eggless Whole Wheat Cake is not only that, it’s free from refined sugar and butter! A wholesome cake is finally here! Though it’s eggless, the texture is like a perfect cake, it’s perfectly moist and spongy! Also the dates and walnuts don’t only add to the nutritional value but also to the perfect earthy flavour, which we all love in thia cold weather!

This cake perfectly satisfies your sweet tooth because I have used jaggery in place of refined sugar, and the dates which takes the earthy flavour to another level! So here is how to make it!

Ingredients for Eggless Whole Wheat Cake

  • 2 Cups Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1  TSP Baking Powder
  • 1/2 TSP Baking Soda
  • 1/4 TSP Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Powdered Jaggery
  • 3/4 Cup Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Cup Curd
  • 1 TSP Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 Cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Cup deseeded and roughly chopped Dates
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 Cup roughly chopped Walnuts plus more for the top


  1. Boil water and put dates in it, turn off the heat and set aside until ready to use
  2. In a dry bowl, sift together, flour, baking powder and soda and salt, set aside
  3. Whisk together Jaggery, curd, olive oil and vanilla in a separate bowl until combined
  4. Add 1/3 of the flour, then 1/2 buttermilk, fold, then continue adding flour and milk alternatively
  5. When only a few flour streaks are visible in the batter, add dates along with the water and walnuts and fold to combine
  6. If the batter is too clumpy add a little more water till the batter is still thick but runny
  7. Now pour this batter into a cake mould lined with parchment paper
  8. Place walnuts on the circumference of the cake’s surface
  9.  Bake this for 40-45 mins, or until lightly browned from the top and a toothpick inserted into the centre comes out clean
  10. Once baked, remove from the oven, and let cool for 10 mins in the pan itself
  11. After 10 mins, run a knife around the edges of the pan and invert it to demould the cake
  12. Enjoy!
